First, I want to thank those of you who have shared how much it helps you to receive my monthly updates. You might have noticed I missed sending out a newsletter last month. I have been overwhelmed trying to understand what is happening astrologically and convey it to you in a way that is helpful. Shortly after the No Kings March here in St. Paul, and then today, April 13, 2026, with the defeat of Viktor Orban in Hungary, I believe the political tide is turning. It may take until inauguration day 2029, but I believe that democracy will prevail.

We are finally on the far side of the Saturn-Neptune conjunction at zero Aries on February 20, 2026. This was a symbol for the dissolution (Neptune) of an existing order (Saturn), and I had fears that the existing order would be our democracy. At that time, we were deep inside the occupation of the Twin Cities area by ICE. It seemed we were well on our way of living in a military state. But our communities rallied to support our neighbors and everyone I knew and spoke with took risks and changed their daily lives to make a difference. By March 28, 2026, the day of No Kings Saturn and Neptune were three degrees apart, enough to make a difference.

Now, to the astrology of this month: The new moon on April 17, 2026, corresponds with a Saturn-Mars-Mercury-Neptune conjunction alongside a Sun-Moon-Chiron conjunction, with all seven planets in Aries. That’s a lot of fire, along with combinations of complex astrological energies.

It’s not uncommon for fast moving planets like Mercury and Venus to travel close to the Sun, but this kind of alignment, with over half of the planets in Aries is very rare and heightens the best and worst of this sign. The best qualities of Aries are courage, advocating for what’s right, constructive risk taking, and loving a challenge. Negative Aries embraces brutal fighting, war, extreme discord, and volatility, as we see in the world around us. As these planets move through Aries until the middle of May, it looks like things will get worse before they get better.

Saturn is the planet of limitations/consequences and when it teams up with Mars, war, Mercury, communication, and Neptune, illusion/confusion, we get a picture of botched peace talks, of heightened volatility and confusion everywhere. Additionally with the luminaries conjunct Chiron, the wounded healer archetype, it seems this new moon offers the potential of a new beginning around things that are broken. Unfortunately, Chiron can heighten already established problems.

Living during such difficult times demands that as individuals we find our positive Aries, our courage, our capacity for risk tolerance, and continue to work to promote justice. Even though Aries is an independent energy, it’s evident that there’s power in numbers.
