I cannot write my usual newsletter even though I’ve been trying for days. That’s because right now the Twin Cities, where I live, are under siege. In the parking lot of grocery stores and gas stations, in hospitals and even private homes, masked and heavily armed ICE agents routinely and willfully ignore the rule of law. Without warrants or following procedure, they are targeting people of color and violently detaining people regardless of citizenship. They are untrained and angry because of the pushback from protesters, angry enough to murder innocent people, use chemical agents outside high schools and create a reign of terror.
I am not an alarmist by nature, but I am frightened. This is not the country I grew up in where the constitution and rule of law were obeyed. Justice might have been slow, but it prevailed (mostly). Members of my immediate family, friendship circle, and community are people of color, and they are vulnerable. Because I love them, I am vulnerable too.
When I look at the planets it seems like some widespread violence may lessen by mid-February around the New Moon in Aquarius on February 17th.
