On August 12, 2026, there will be a new moon Solar Eclipse at 20 degrees of Leo, echoing a pattern of similar eclipses from both August 2018, and August 2008. If you remember the issues you were facing during those years, you might perceive something similar or parallel going on now. Solar Eclipses unlike transits, which can be accurately timed, can manifest up to three months before and three months after their actual date. From my observation this one seems to have been active all of July and is culminating in the first week of October. Jupiter is currently in Leo and will be transiting the eclipse point until October 10th. Since Jupiter is famous for expansion, it’s possible that any disruptions you’re experiencing now may expand before getting resolved.
This Leo eclipse, ruled by the Sun-the center of our solar system-is associated with leaders, creatives, and brilliance. The Sun and Moon are also conjunct the South Node symbolizing completion of the past, or things from the past resurfacing to be resolved. All of this may play out on a collective level or individually. The path of the eclipse goes over Portugal and Northern Spain and may mirror ongoing issues with heat and fire there.
A Solar eclipse most often acts like a disruptor, shedding light on the shadow, or bringing things that have been hidden out into the open. Eclipses in general correspond to major shifts and disruptions in the collective, and individually, they relate to new beginnings, crises, times of heightened emotions, and events that sometimes lead us on a path that intersects with our destiny. When a Solar Eclipse resonates with a natal pattern in your birth chart it can bring to life events that shake you up and eventually bring you into closer alignment with your life path.
In doing the research for my new book Death Charts: An Astrological Tool for the Bereaved, I found over and over again that each profound loss in the life of my client was in some way centered around a Solar eclipse or a pair of eclipses. Along with three to five transits from the outer planets (Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto), these losses marked a turning point in their lives, with tremendous opportunity for growing and changing in ways previously unimagined.
