Hello everyone,

After the pile-up of last month’s Aries planets, the Taurus new moon arrives like a long much needed exhale. On May 16, 2026, at 26 degrees of Taurus, the Sun and Moon are conjunct both Mercury and Ceres, all gathered in the most embodied, sensory sign of the zodiac. Where the Aries new moon pushed us to act, be brave, and begin, this lunation invites us to slow down, return to our bodies, and take the long view.

Taurus is a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus, governing the physical world: our bodies, our food, our money, our values, and the land itself. Where Aries focuses on action, Taurus pays attention to nurturing, and self-care. This new moon offers a chance to reset, and to plant seeds in soil rather than in fire.

Ceres, the asteroid of nurturing, mothering, and sustenance, is especially powerful conjunct the luminaries here. In Greek myth, Ceres (Demeter) is the goddess of grain and the earth’s bounty, and also of grief, having lost her daughter Persephone to the underworld. With Ceres conjunct the Sun and Moon in Taurus, this new moon opens a doorway to nurturing ourselves at the most fundamental level—through what we eat, how we rest, who we touch, and what we plant. For those of us who have been running on adrenaline through the difficult news of the last months, this is permission to care for ourselves first.

Mercury joining the conjunction is a welcome addition. Mercury in Taurus is slow, deliberate, and grounded—the voice that thinks before it speaks and means what it says. With Mercury conjunct Ceres, our communication is colored by kindness. We may find ourselves having more patient conversations or speaking up about what we love and what we need.

At the same time, Uranus has recently re-entered Gemini for the first time since 1943, where it will travel until 2033. Uranus is the great awakener—the planet of revolution, sudden change, and breakthrough innovation. Gemini governs communication, technology, transportation, and learning. The last time Uranus passed through Gemini, from 1941 to 1949, the world saw the rise of mass broadcast media, the first programmable computers, the splitting of the atom, and the end of World War II. We are entering another such period, in which our tools for communication and the way information moves through the world will be transformed in radical and unexpected ways.

Taurus and Gemini do not naturally see eye to eye. Taurus wants stability; Gemini wants novelty. With this Taurus stellium just a handful of degrees away from Uranus in early Gemini, the new moon asks us to hold both: to keep our feet on the ground while our information landscape, and the world around us, shift quickly. The grounding of Taurus is not a luxury during a Uranus-in-Gemini era. It is a necessity.

Practical suggestions for this lunation: get your hands in the dirt; cook and savor a meal, turn the news off and listen to the wind instead; have a real conversation with a friend; choose one or two trustworthy sources of information and let the rest go by. This is a good two weeks for planting seeds, both literal and metaphorical, and for asking yourself what you most want to grow over the long Uranus-in-Gemini years ahead.

If you have planets between 22 and 29 degrees of Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn, this new moon is particularly supportive. If you have planets in the early degrees of Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo, or Pisces, you are likely already feeling the Uranus shake-up—pay close attention to where new ideas, restless thoughts, or sudden information are pulling you. They may be showing you where the next seven years want to take you.
