This Thursday, March 21, 2023, we will experience spring in triplicate! Both the Sun, our conscious self, and Moon, our unconscious self, will be at zero Aries, symbolizing the equinox, which marks the first day of spring. With or without the weathers’ co-operation here in Minnesota, the energy of new life, beginnings, and the will to act, starts to make itself known. Bird song is everywhere, robins fly from tree to ground, daylight lasts longer, and the air smells fresh with promise of things to come.
Aries is a cardinal fire sign, both of which signify action. Cardinal signs take initiative, while fire signs create, advocate, and can’t sit still. Aries reminds us that what we want and need matters, and it’s time to act. This new moon is a powerful time to set intentions, to act on plans, and to speak up for yourself. By Tuesday, the Sun will have finished its time in Pisces which is more devoted to our connection with the collective, to dreams and our inner life, while spending the days leading up to the new moon conjunct Neptune, its watery, intuitive ruler. Whatever you’ve been feeling within your imagination, dreams, and aspirations, the message of this new moon is “take action”.
Mercury, the mind and communication planet is also in Aries conjunct the new moon. Thinking about what’s next and making plans, along with being more direct in your communication is part of this triple conjunction. The time for speaking up and speaking your mind is here. Aries can be impulsive and headstrong, and like its symbol, the ram, it can charge into situations without thinking, so take a breath before you act or speak.
This new moon is happening between two major planetary shifts, Saturn has just entered Pisces which I wrote about last month, and on March 23, 2023, Pluto will enter Aquarius for the first time since 1778. Those years coincided with a period of great revolutions, including the Industrial, American and French revolutions. Because Pluto stays in one zodiac sign from 12-31 years it brings collective change that challenges the existing power structure. A recent example was the last time Pluto changed signs. In January 2008 Pluto went into Capricorn and by that fall the US faced a terrible financial crisis caused by unscrupulous investment banking and insurance practices that passed all the risks to investors. Within a few years Obama signed into law several legislative measures to counter the financial crisis, including the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. But that happened after 3.1 million people filed for foreclosure on their homes. Pluto will bring things within the power structures that have been hidden, or corrupt to light, in order to create change.
This March 23rd Pluto will enter Aquarius until June 12, 2023, when it retrogrades into Capricorn until January 21, 2024. We’re on the cusp of a powerful new cycle in history, and these next few months offer a sneak preview. Because Aquarius has to do with technology, innovation, and a humanitarian mindset, watch for new beginnings in these areas.
If you were born between January 20 and February 18, then you’re likely to be a Sun sign Aquarius. This is a perfect time to treat yourself to a Natal Chart, to better understand your abilities, or a Yearly Forecast to understand how what Pluto means in your sign.
