The New Moon on December 19, 2025, includes four planets in fiery Sagittarius. The Sun and Moon are conjunct both Juno and Venus, two symbols for deep connections and love. Sagittarius is often associated with ideals, aspirations, and optimism, so this new moon, new beginning represents our hopes for positive connections with those we love. If that was the only thing happening in this chart, I would say you could expect your holiday gatherings to be upbeat, lively, and very harmonious. Unfortunately, the Sun and Moon are creating a square, or conflicted aspect to both Saturn and Neptune in Pisces, a multi-layered complex watery energy.

The Saturn Neptune conjunction is important as we end this calendar year, and a major player in the heavens for 2026. These two planets are extremely different, and after traveling together at the end of this year will meet again on February 20, 2026, at zero degrees Aries, another symbol for new beginnings.

Saturn represents structure, discipline, and productivity, while Neptune is associated with dreams, visions, ideals and intuition. The last time they traveled together was 1989 in the sign of Capricorn when we witnessed the fall of the Berlin wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union. The previous conjunction happened in 1953 in Libra and was associated with early challenges to gender norms. Often, it seems that the oceanic force of Neptune will wash away some aspect of life represented by Saturn such as a boundary or a well-established system.

For the rest of 2025 and through January 2026 these two transpersonal planets are working behind the scenes, finishing up a two- and half-year transit of Saturn through Pisces and a fourteen-year period of Neptune in Pisces. Pisces, being the 12th sign of the zodiac is associated not only with endings but with a general sense of watery disillusion. Because the Sagittarius new moon activates these two planets, we can expect a bit of that destructive chaos to come into play. If you have planets in the final degrees of Pisces, or first five degrees of Aries, this next year brings profound potential for exciting new beginnings.

Here’s wishing all of you a very happy holiday season! May your fires burn bright on the winter solstice, may the candles on your menorah or kinara remind you of resilience, and may your holiday lights inside and out brighten your short winter days!
