This New Moon takes place on January 11th when the Sun, Moon and Pluto make a wide conjunction in Capricorn and trine Uranus in Taurus. Capricorn, a cardinal earth sign, is associated with a hardworking, grounded, realistic, and disciplined personality; someone who takes life seriously and sets ambitious goals for themselves. Even though Capricorn season began on December 21, and we recently entered 2024, there is an energy all through these next couple of weeks of manifesting our individual Capricorn by evaluating our goals while reviewing 2023 and planning for 2024.
When the Sun and Moon are within ten degrees of Pluto, we feel a heightened intensity about these ending and beginnings, about our needs and aspirations. Pluto brings an energy of going deeply within and uprooting what no longer serves us to make room for something new. The trine to Uranus, the planet of originality and authenticity supports this energy, particularly for people with planets in Capricorn and Taurus. Mars is also in Capricorn for the next month, and the initiative symbolized by Mars expressing in the strategic and competent sign of Capricorn lends us extra support in making our choices and actions count. Mercury will enter Capricorn on January 14 as well, bringing greater clarity and mental discipline.
On January 21, Pluto will move into Aquarius where it will stay until September, retrograding briefly into Capricorn before its final launch into Aquarius for almost 20 years. When outer planets like Pluto change signs they bring sweeping changes. And for Pluto, these changes move slowly. Because Pluto already represents change, and Aquarius is associated with innovation, technology, and a humanitarian and egalitarian mindset, I feel very hopeful about the coming decades. The last time Pluto was in Aquarius the North American colonies fought Great Britain for independence from 1775 to 1783. Also, the French revolution began in 1789 a few years after Uranus was discovered in 1781. If one thing is certain, it’s that Pluto transiting Aquarius will bring change.
