On November 13, 2023, we will experience a very intense Scorpio New Moon. Coming on the heels of two eclipses it suggests that the disruption, chaos and fighting that dominates the world right now will continue, at least for now. Scorpio, by nature, is intense; when working at its best it brings powerful transformations and constructive change, but Scorpio energy can also be destructive.

During this new moon both luminaries are close to Mars, the planet of war, of heightened reactivity, and impatient willfulness. This is happening in Scorpio, a fixed sign, which doesn’t like change. Opposing these three, the Sun, Moon, and Mars, is Uranus in Taurus, also a fixed sign. Uranus is associated with a “wild card” energy, and sometimes brings events that are both unexpected and shattering. Uranus rules revolutions, breaking through old paradigms, and events and experiences that create greater freedom. It seems this new moon has great potential for a positive change, particularly in the middle east, and it’s hard to predict with any certainty.

On a personal level if you have planets between 15-25 degrees of the fixed signs, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius, this new moon may be challenging on some level. When Mars and Uranus are in opposition there is a tendency to react without thinking, and feelings that have been simmering below the surface can erupt. You might feel triggered without even clearly knowing why. Take time to slow down and center if you can, before potentially difficult encounters, or chose to delay them for a couple days. These two energies, when polarized, often show up as injuries, inflammation, or accidents, so be careful.

Because the Sun and Moon, along with Mars are in a congenial trine with Neptune, taking some time to meditate, engage in creative activities, or be in nature, all look like a healthy counterpoint to the more challenging energy the days right before and after the new moon.

On a more positive note, on November 4th Saturn turned direct after a long retrograde that began in the middle of June this year. This happened in early Pisces. Because Saturn is connected to getting results and our ability to work hard and be disciplined, most of us will feel like we’re finally getting back on track, particularly for people with planets in the early degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces.
